Rylee Young

Atkinson, NE
Niobrara Valley #289

Tell us about your family:

My dad is the principal at my high school. My mom teaches 5th grade in a town 20 miles away. I have an older sister who’s a freshmen in college and a younger sister in 7th grade (Danika and McKenna). We have two female English Springer Spaniels. One is 12 years old and one is 1 1/2 old.

What activities are you involved in at school and in your community?

FCCLA, FCA, cross country, basketball, track, softball, drill team, quiz bowl, band, Fusion youth group, one acts, mock trial.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love hanging out with friends and family. I enjoy running and lifting. Of course, I love hunting, fishing, camping, and anything involving the outdoors.

Why do you want to serve on the Youth Leadership Council? Why will you be a good spokesperson for your age group on conservation?

I want to serve on the Youth Leadership Council, because I have realized how important conservation is. I also want to show girls how much fun it can be being outdoors. I will be a good spokesperson for my age group, because I have been “hunting” with my dad since I was 6. I have seen both good conservation and bad. I also have been helping my dad create a new “home” for pheasants.

Any awards or special honors you have received?

My softball team got runner-up at state, I also received 1st place at district FCCLA and 3rd at state. I also made it in the 800-pound club at out school. I have qualified for state track and state cross country. Took 1st place at Chadron Scholastic Competition in Algebra I, 5th in Foods, and 11th for Anatomy and Physiology. I have been named female lifter of the year for two years now. I am our Drill Team Captain and National Honor Society President.
