Junior Wildlife Conservationist Quiz
1. What huge man-made disasters took place on March 28, 1979 and March 24, 1989 that changed how humans generate energy?
On March 28, 1979, Pennsylvania’s Three Mile Island nuclear power plant experienced a partial meltdown. Not one nuclear plant has been built in the United States since. Although now, as energy becomes scarcer and more expensive, the country is taking a second look at nuclear power.
On March 24, 1989, the Exxon Valdez oil tanker ran aground in Alaska, spilling 11 million gallons of crude oil and killing marine life by the millions. All tankers in Alaska’s Prince William Sound must have double hulls by 2015 to prevent another spill.
