On September 19th, 2009 Tall Grass Chapter of Pheasants Forever in Illinois is having a family preseason trap shoot. The event will begin at 8 am and run until 12 pm. Two 20g 870 youth models and two other 20’s will be provided if needed. Eye and ear protection will also be provided, if you have your own feel free to bring them with. Lunch will be provided. Prairie dogs’ constant grass clipping promotes new, more nutritious growth which bison love. Here, a mother keeps watch while her pups explore
Many people have heard of or visited famous South Dakota landmarks such as the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore and Devil’s Tower.
There’s another less famous, but great family destination you should visit called Custer State Park in western South Dakota. This 71,000-acre park is in the Black Hills and has about 1.7 million visitors each year.
Why should you explore Custer State Park? How about a chance to see one of the largest bison, or buffalo, herds in the country — about 1,500 animals? Ever seen a buffalo roll over and over dusting itself in a “wallow”? This is their version of bug spray. How about a good old fashioned bison roundup with real cowboys? It’s pretty exciting to see hundreds of buffalo thundering across the prairie during the fall roundup. more…

Description: On October 10, 2009 Severson Dells is partnering with three local Pheasants Forever Chapters, for a restoration work day. The work day will start at 9:30 am with safety, rules and how the day will be ran. At 10:00 am the group will split into two (2). Group A will work on restoring an area that is becoming over run by honeysuckle. While group B will start seed collecting in one of Severson Dell’s prairies. At 11:00 am the groups will meet up and flip flop activities for another hour of work. 12:00 to 1:00 we will break for lunch. Plans are in the works for a lunch to be provided, but no details are set in stone. After a lunch break, the groups will join together to go on a hike on the Severson Dell’s property, along with a tour of the nature center. Some prizes will be awarded at this event, along with some other activities at lunch time. Winnebago Chapter, Kishwaukee Chapter, and McHenry County Chapter’s of Pheasants Forever is inviting youth under the age of 18 and their families to come out and partake in this event. Gloves, glasses and tools will be provided. Hope to see you there.
