  • Gardening tools to dig up the soil, such as a shovel, gardening fork, how or hand trowel,
  • Flower pots and potting soil (if you don’t have or don’t want to dig up a patch of soil),
  • Watering can or watering wand attached to a hose,
  • Native flowering plants.

1. Find a nursery or garden sotre that sells native plants, and ask for those that are the best for attracting butterflies.

2. Dig up a sunny patch of soil big enough for your plants. (Follow any instructions that come with the plants.) Dig enough for the plants’ roots to have plenty of room to grow.

3. If you’re using flower pots, first put some small stones in the bottom of each pot for drainage. Then put in some potting soil, then the plant and then some more soil until the pot is filled to within an inch or so of the top.

4. Water your soil whenever it begins to get dry

5. Enjoy the butterflies in your new garden!!
